The Smethport man accused of impersonating a U.S. Marshall was sentenced yesterday.
According to a release from the U.S. Dept of Justice, 60 year old Ernest Lathrop, Sr. was sentenced to 6 months of probation. The sentencing follows Lathrop pleading guilty to falsely portraying himself as a Deputy United States Marshal and during his impersonation possessing a fake United States Marshal badge.
The incident that prompted the charges occurred at the scene of an accident in January of 2021 when Lathrop turned on the emergency lights on his vehicle and telling people he was a U.S. Marshal.
