The Kane woman convicted on weapons charges last month was sentenced yesterday.
Marily Woodford McMahon along with her son Paul McMahon had been charged and convicted of various crimes related to firearms including possession of a firearm with altered/obliterated manufacturer number, receiving stolen property, and possession of offensive weapons. Woodford McMahon was sentenced to 39 months to 108 months plus 2 years of consecutive probation. Additionally she will be required to pay lab user fees and expert fees incurred by the DA’s office at the trial, undergo an mental health and drug and alcohol evaluations, possess no weapons and provide a DNA sample as well as other terms. She is also ineligible for early reentry programs and must have no contact with any witnesses who testified during the trial.
Following the sentencing the Judge said that the sentence was substantial, but appropriate mentioning the impact on the victims of the crimes and the impact on her own family members, two of whom testified. Rather than telling her son to stop what he was doing, which according to witnesses was providing drugs in exchange for stolen firearms, she helped him do it by keeping the weapons at her home or him thereby encouraging him.
