Catalyst Energy Inc. is free to begin pumping hundreds of thousands of gallons of toxic fracking wastewater down a McKean County well.
The Pennsylvania Environmental Hearing Board issued an order on Dec. 27 allowing the Pittsburgh company to truck more than 30 loads per day of flowback water into McKean County — wastewater that environmental agencies acknowledge “may be toxic, hazardous or radioactive.”
Catalyst was first issued the state permit last January, to convert a well just off Route 646 (Ridge Road) in Keating Township from a conventional to an injection disposal well.
Residents believed neither Catalyst nor the DEP provided sufficient notice of the intended injection well and, further, gave insufficient consideration to dozens of abandoned wells within one-quarter mile of the site. A group of about 40 unhappy homeowners, citing myriad concerns, mounted an ultimately unsuccessful appeal of the operations.
Woah! Where exactly is this and who’s letting it happen again? I wanna know the names of who signed what here…
TOTAL BULL@#$% DUMP IT IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD!!
To the DEP if it’s safe to dump why not do it through residual waste then? Money has made this happen, what’s new!!
EXACTLY 100%
Can you blame them for being disgusted. I bet these people sitting in their offices could give a darn what happens as long it isnt near their homes and families. Am i right ?
Will this lower my water cost? Should the residents of Mckean county get an an incentive for this waste dumping. I’m sure there was a payment to Mckean county to allow this waste water to be dumped here.
