Bailey Falter gave up only four hits and had five strikeouts through seven innings, and the Pittsburgh Pirates ended a four-game losing streak with a one-to-nothing win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.
Pirates manager Don Kelly couldn’t say enough good things about Falter’s performance. “He was electric,” said the Skipper. “His fastball exploding through the zone, command, both sides of the plate pitching in, and just the way that Joey (Bart) was able to mix in the off-speed there and then go back to the fastball, and you know, Bailey just stuck it right where Joey [wanted it] you know, in the inside lane especially, to have it open up like that and be able to throw a slider and a split. He did a great job.”
Falter has surrendered one run in 23 and two-thirds innings over his past four starts, including none in 16 and two-thirds innings in his past three, and he features a 3-3 record on the year. It’s the series finale on Wednesday as Andrew Heaney will take the hill for the Bucs and the Reds will send right-hander Brady Singer to the mound.
