A dog injured a police officer during a welfare check in Olean Thursday, biting him twice before officers shot the animal.
According to the Olean Police Department Facebook page, as officers spoke with the subject of a welfare check, the owner’s dog attacked the officers, injuring Officer Dylan Ensell. Though officers attempted to use pepper spray to subdue the animal, they were forced to shoot the dog, resulting in its death.
Ensell’s wounds were treated, and he has since been released from Olean General Hospital.
