Pirates Outfielder Bryan Reynolds
The Pirates pulled off their biggest comeback of the season Tuesday night, erasing a six-run deficit with a seven-run eighth inning to beat the Diamondbacks, 9-6, at Chase Field.
The Diamondbacks struck early and often, with Corbin Carroll hitting a leadoff homer off Mike Burrows. Burrows was lifted amid a five-run fourth inning, giving way to Joey Wentz, who provided some much-needed length out of the bullpen, going 3 2/3 innings.
The catalyst on offense was catcher Henry Davis, who entered the game in the bottom of the fifth for Joey Bart. Davis launched a 432-foot home run to left-center to get the Pirates on the board in the sixth inning and then opened the eighth with a double to right-center.
Two batters after Tommy Pham’s RBI single, Isiah Kiner-Falefa tied the game up at 6-6 with a bases-loaded double. Two batters after that, Bryan Reynolds put the Pirates in front with a three-run homer to left off Jalen Beeks.
Those seven runs represented the best offensive output the Pirates have had in an inning all season.
Dennis Santana and David Bednar closed things out from there, with the latter earning his sixth save of the season.
