The Pirates claimed right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis. Catcher and first-baseman Endy Rodriguez has been transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room for Darrell-Hicks on the 40-man roster.
The 27-year-old Darrell-Hicks, who was designated for assignment on June 8, went 1-0 with a 9.39 ERA in six relief appearances with the Angels this season. He also went 0-2 with an 8.87 ERA in 17 relief appearances with Triple-A Salt Lake.
