A kayaker had to be rescued Friday night after the kayak flipped over in rough waters of Van Buren Bay.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Water Rescue Team saw from shore that 21-year-old Andrew Amsler of Evans City was clinging to the kayak. By the time they got to him he let go of the kayak and went under the water, but one of the deputies jumped into the water and pulled him out and into the rescue boat.
Amsler was taken to Dunkirk Harbor, where he was turned over to his family. He was cited for not wearing a life jacket.
