The City of Warren has been fined by the state Fish and Boat Commission after a sewer leak caused raw sewage to flow into the Allegheny River.
City officials say the $500 settlement is not an admission of liability.
Back on June 17, a 60-year-old cast iron pipe broke while crews were working on the city’s new waste treatment plant. Because of high groundwater behind the Harmar Street plant, and its proximity to the river, the break was difficult to find.
Crews were not able to estimate how much sewage was discharged into the river.
