The Allegheny National Forest will be replacing a damaged culvert on Longhouse Scenic Drive (FR-262) section of the Longhouse National Scenic Byway. The six-week project will begin the week of July 31, and will result in temporarily closing a portion of the road until the work is completed.
The damaged culvert is located between Elijah Run Boat Launch and Kiasutha Campground. All recreation sites on FR-262 will remain open, however visitors may need to use an alternate route to reach specific sites.
· To reach Kiasutha from SR-59 (from Warren): Continue on SR-59 until you reach SR-321 (approximately 8 miles) south to Kane, Penn. Turn south on SR-321 and follow it until you reach the southern end of the Longhouse National Scenic Byway (FR-262), then turn north on FR-262. Note: Elijah Run, Dewdrop and Jakes Rocks Overlook and Mountain Bike Trail can still be accessed from SR-59.
· To reach Elijah Run, Dewdrop and Jakes Rocks Overlook and Mountain Bike Trail from Route 6 (from Kane): Follow SR-321 north to SR-59. Head west on SR-59 to the Longhouse Scenic Drive (FR-262) and turn south.
There will be many posted detour signs to inform travelers about the road closure. In addition, there will be turnaround locations on FR-262 at the points of the road closures.
