Jury selection began today for the trial of the New Jersey man charged with stabbing author Salman Rushdie during a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in 2022.
27-year-old Hadi Matar has pled not guilty to charges of attempted murder and assault.
A separate trial on the federal charges against Matar, specifically related to terrorism and the fatwa issued for Rushdie’s death, will be scheduled in U.S. District Court in Buffalo at a later date.
Matar has been held without bail since his arrest.
