The Pittsburgh Pirates are adding Chris Truby and Gene Lamont to manager Don Kelly’s coaching staff, the team has announced.
The Pirates also said the role of third base coach Mike Rabelo will be expanded to work with Kelly on game planning and in-game strategy.
It’s a return to the Pirates dugout for Lamont, 78, who was the team’s manager from 1997 to 2000 and a coach during Jim Leyland’s tenure in the 1980s and early ’90s. The Pirates said Lamont will be a special advisor to Kelly.
Lamont was most recently on Detroit’s coaching staff in 2017. He has also been a coach with Boston and Houston, and he managed the Chicago White Sox from 1992 to 1995.
