The Pittsburgh Penguins dumped the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night 3-1. Sidney Crosby scored the winning goal on a deflection in the second period. Evgeni Malkin then added the insurance goal in the third to pace the Pens. Scott Wilson also scored for the Penguins, who moved to within three points of the Eastern Conference leading Washington Capitals. Matt Murray had 29 saves to lead the defense. The Pens are 7-1-3 since the break. Pittsburgh returns to the ice in the Winter Classic Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field against the Philadelphia Flyers.
