The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams on the 10-day injured list with a right side strain.
Right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Williams’ place on the 25-man active roster. This is Holmes’ second stint with the Pirates this season (also May 9-15). Holmes will wear uniform #52.
Right-handed pitcher Richard Rodríguez has been optioned to Triple-A.
The Pirates have also selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Geoff Hartlieb from Indianapolis. Hartlieb went 1-0 with one save, a 3.32 ERA (19.0ip/7er) and 23 strikeouts in 12 relief appearances this season with Indianapolis. Since being selected by the Pirates in the 29th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the 25-year-old Hartlieb has gone 15-9 with 21 saves, a 3.01 ERA (167.1ip/56er) and 169 strikeouts in 114 relief appearances during his minor league career. Hartlieb, who has no previous big league experience, will wear uniform #72.
Additionally, catcher Jacob Stallings has cleared outright waivers and has been assigned outright to Indianapolis.
