Firearms would be barred from polling places under a new bill introduced in the State House.
Under current law, firearms are permitted inside and adjacent to polling places, except for locations like courthouses and schools, where firearms are already prohibited. HB2077, introduced by Representatives Tim Brennan and Mary Jo Daley, would change that.
In a memo announcing the bill, Brennan and Daley said “Over the years, we have heard more and more about voters and election workers being threatened, harassed, or intimidated at polling places. As a result, many voters have expressed concerns about voting in person at their assigned polling location, and many voting districts have struggled to find or retain volunteers to work at such locations.”
The bill has been sent to the State Government committee.
Unconstitutional by the highest law in the land. 2nd amendment shall not be infringed upon.
District of Columbia v. Heller, 2008. Justice Scalia writing for the majority:
“Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited. [It is] not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”
Specifically included in examples of laws Scalia cited as “presumptively lawful” are laws that “Forbid firearm possession in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings.”
A polling place is a sensitive place. The only reason to carry a weapon into a polling place is to disrupt an election through intimidation or murder.
Ridiculous. A clear violation of the 2nd Amendment
