Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Highmark, will join the Chartiers-Houston Girls Softball Association today at 5:30 p.m. for a special pre-game event at the Chartiers-Houston Softball Fields to unveil field improvements as part of the Fields for Kids program.
The Chartiers-Houston Girls Softball Association faced severe flooding in early April. Despite efforts from volunteers to resurface the infield, the field was flooded a second time, jeopardizing the start of the 2024 season. Upon hearing the news of the event, Pirates Charities along with Highmark worked with the league and provided resources and support through the Fields for Kids program to get the field back to playing conditions and ensuring the young athletes would be able to start their upcoming season on time.
The Chartiers-Houston Softball Community will be present at PNC Park on Saturday to enjoy a game together and celebrate all of their hard work over the last few weeks.
